Course Objectives:

At the end of the course, the participant will be able to:

1.       Define ethical distress, dilemma and locus of authority.

2.       Discuss confounding factors that impact ethics of care.

3.       Recognize conflict between legal and ethical principles.

4.       Review the Texas Practice Act and Rules and regulations as they apply to physical therapy.

5.       Apply the steps of the ethical decision-making process to case studies.

6.      Review the APTA Code of Ethics in conjunction with case studies.

This course is Pending Approval for 2.0 CCUs of Ethics credit.

Registration deadline is May 29th.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Loretta Dillon is currently a Clinical Associate Professor and the Director of Clinical Education at The University of Texas at El Paso, where she has been a faculty member since 1993. She has published scholarly papers on topics related to clinical education and academic predictors. She has a new research interest in the incorporation of Spanish language training in physical therapy curricula. Loretta is a frequent speaker on topics related to clinical education, including the Texas Consortium’s Clinical Instructor Certification, Part II, and has been a frequent presenter on the topic of Ethics in Physical Therapy practice. She is also an active member of the APTA, with membership in the acute care and education sections and serves on the TPTA Nominating committee.
