This course is directed towards identifying the relevance of how the aging process increases the risk of the aging and the elderly in regards to morbidity, mortality, and general quality of life. Additionally, this course is to identifying medical, environmental, and social risk factors from all team members in different settings in order to reduce the risk for falls and reduce the negative outcomes of these falls.

Course Objectives:

1) Identify statistical relevance for falls
2) Identify how the aging process increases the risk for falls
3) Identify additional factors in relation to falls
4) Identify hurdles or complications as team members that elevate a patient’s risk for falls
5) Identify strategies to reduce fall risks.

Speaker Bio:

Ryley has resided in the panhandle of Texas most of his life where he continues to live and practice. He has also served in the US Army and came back to live, work, and play in Amarillo. He is a PT who has worked primarily with the geriatric genre for most of his career. This involves acute care, long term care/SNU, and home health care. He was certified as a GCS in June of 2014 where he continues to utilize his skills in the geriatric realm of home health care and out-patient.
