Dinner will be served at 6 PM and the presentation will begin at 6:30 PM. There will be a hands-on demonstration at the end of the presentation that participants may participate in if they like.
This course will provide the learner a brief introduction to Trigger Point Dry Needling. This introduction will provide an overview of the history of needling, significant names with a review of their contributions to this knowledge base, a demonstration of the application and safe handling of needles, and finally an overview of the certification process.
The attendee will:
1) Understand the scope of practice concerns for Trigger Point Dry Needling in the state of Texas
2) Discuss the reasons a clinician may choose to use Trigger Point Dry Needling (TPDN)
3) Understand the precautions and contraindications associated with TPDN
4) Demonstrate the safe handling and application of TPDN with a patient
Brad Allen, PT, ScD, COMT is an assistant professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas. His responsibilities are split between the Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy and Doctor of Physical Therapy programs. His primary areas of teaching are related to functional anatomy, orthopedic assessment of the spine, upper extremities, and lower extremities, therapeutic modalities and therapeutic exercise. He has 19 years of experience as a physical therapist and private practice owner. This has afforded him the opportunity to work in a wide range of settings. Early in his career, he was very active with the New Mexico Chapter of the APTA, eventually serving as the President for a brief period. Most recently he has completed the Doctor of Science degree in Physical Therapy offered through the School of Allied Health Sciences at TTUHSC in Lubbock, Texas. The completion of this degree included a clinical project and literature review of the biopsychosocial and physiological changes associated with chronic pain.
