This course will provide participants with basic American Sign Language (ASL) skills in a didactic and hands-on lab format to increase the participant's ability to communicate with individuals who predominantly communicate through sign language. 

  

Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, the learner will be able to:

1.) Recognize and demonstrate ASL Alphabet and Numbers. 
2.) Demonstrate basic ASL communications of key verbs, nouns and adjectives common to medical practice.
3.) Demonstrate basic ASL communications including pleasantries and descriptors. 

 

Speaker Bios

Chris McMillen has a BS in Kinesiology from UTEP and graduated in 2013.  Chris currently has 3 years of interpreting ASL for Physical Therapists at Spine and Rehab Specialists, 2 years volunteering as ASL interpreter for DARS/Texas Workforce Commission as well as 2 years guest lecturing at Park University. Chris has Education in ASL at EPCC including shadowing ASL instructor and assisting with ASL interpretation and has also been a guest lecturer at EPCC , Western Tech and UTEP.
