Physical Therapy of the Axial Trunk: Topics include Respiratory Assessment and Treatment, SI Joint Dysfunction Assessment and Treatment, and Urinary Incontinence in the Female Athlete. Learn how to assess and utilize techniques to treat patients with respiratory conditions as well as those with dysfunction of the lumbosacral and pelvic floor areas.
At the conclusion of this program, the learner will be able to:
1.) Have understanding of the pathophysiology of commonly seen respiratory conditions.
2.) Complete a basic respiratory assessment.
3.) Be knowledgeable regarding commonly used medications for respiratory conditions.
SI Joint Dysfunction:
1. Assess SI dysfunction.
2. Perform manual techniques to treat SI dysfunction.
3. Perform and instruct on exercises for SI dysfunction
Urinary Incontinence in the Female Athlete:
1. Understand the basic mechanics of the pelvic floor.
2. Gain knowledge in how pelvic floor dysfunction leads to urinary incontinence in females.
3. Attendees will be able to design a treatment plan to address urinary incontinence in females.
Lauri Kirgis, RRT, B.A.T. received her license as a Respiratory Therapist in 2002 and a Bachelor of Applied Technology–Health Services Technology in 2007. She has worked as the Director of Clinical Education/Instructor Respiratory Care Program at Howard College San Angelo (August 2007-2014) and as Program Chair (August 2014-present).
Shauna Owens, PT, DPT received her Master of Physical Therapy from Angelo State University in 2010 and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Temple University in 2013. She has worked full-time in an Outpatient Orthopedic clinic since 2011 and has been the director of Outpatient Orthopedic Services at Shannon Medical Center since 2014. She has attended numerous orthopedic physical therapy courses including a certification in Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) in March 2017.
Megan Cordes, PT, DPT, WCS, CLT graduated with her Master of Physical Therapy from Angelo State University in 2009 and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Temple University in 2013. She became a Women’s Certified Specialist, WCS in 2016. She has practice as a full-time Physical Therapist primarily in the field of Women's Health at West Texas Rehab Center since 2010.
