Speaker Information

Jennifer Penn PT, DPT, NCS

Dr. Jennifer Penn has a love for all things neurological.  During her high school years one of her close friends sustained an incomplete spinal cord injury. While attending physical therapy with her friend her interest in neuroplasticity and rehabilitation grew.  She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from Brigham Young University, where she participated in research regarding the effect of migraines on central processing. Moving forward, she went on to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California where she participated in national clinical trials regarding Constraint Induced Therapy post CVA and the effects of electrical stimulation for foot drop recovery post CVA with the Bioness L300.  She completed a specialization through the APTA accredited Neurological Physical Therapy Residency at USC and practiced at USC PT Associates while teaching in the USC Physical Therapy program. After completing the residency, she became an APTA board certified Neurological Clinical Specialist and continued teaching as an adjunct clinical faculty at USC in the Neurorehabilitation course for 5 years. While she continued teaching at USC she balanced her professional life by also working at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center in the Outpatient Neurorehabilitation and Balance Centers.  In 2009, Dr. Penn married and moved to Salt Lake City to be closer to family and began work in the Intermountain Health Care System at Stewart Rehabilitation Center in the Neurorehabilitation and Vestibular Clinic. While there she founded and led the Parkinson’s Wellness Program and participated in development of system wide post-concussion protocols and training, and outreach programs for vestibular rehabilitation. In 2011, she completed the Herdman Vestibular Rehabilitation Competency-Based Course and continues with advanced vestibular training throughout the years.  She has been involved with vestibular rehabilitation and program development for over 10 years. Most recently, she moved to the San Antonio area, again to be close to family, joining the full-time faculty at the University of the Incarnate Word.   At UIW she is now responsible for the development and instruction of all second-year content in the PT program, which focuses on all things neurological.
