TPTA's History

The Changing Landscape
1972 - 2000

The Texas Chapter hosted it's first National Conference in Houston, TX at the Shamrock Hotel in June, 1973.

The Texas Chapter hosted it's second National Conference in 1983 (June 24-29).

The first employee for the Association was Geradline Midgley, PT who resided in Uvalde, TX.  She worked part-time for the association and this was a big step forward for the association to have a "dedicated staff" person.

In January of 1978 a Chapter Office was established in Austin, Texas in the Southwest Tower Building through major impetus provided by the President, Jeanette Winfree.  Jean Bizzell Carpenter was employed as the first Executive Director and present seecretary Veronica Hernandez was the second employee hired.  Paul M. Edwards, CAE was the second Executive Director followed in September, 1980 by Cathy Greene, CAE.

In the early 1980's the Chapter membership had grown to 1,700 members.

 {Under Construction - if you have information about the Association during this time period, contact Jeni Leans (jeni@tpta.org) at the Chapter Office.}
