Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants play an important role in caring for those with undiagnosed and rare disorders. By learning to see the individual "Beyond the Diagnosis", physical therapists and physical therapist assistants can better address their patients and clients unmet needs and assist them in navigating the medical system.. 1CCU 

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Identify the role of physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in assisting those with undiagnosed and rare disorders navigate the medical system.
2. Address the unmet needs of those with undiagnosed and rare disorders in our community.
3. Provide resources for clinicians to share with colleagues and clients.

Speaker(s)
Mary Elizabeth Parker, PT, PhD, NCS, PCS received her undergraduate degree at Duke University in 1991 with a double major in biological psychology and physical anthropology. Her Master's in Physical Therapy was awarded in 1995 from the Medical College of Virginia and her doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2012 from Texas Woman's University. Dr. Parker is a Clinical Associate Professor of Physical Therapy at Texas State University and coordinates the neuroscience sequence with emphasis in teaching in neuroanatomy and pediatrics. She is dually licensed in Texas and Connecticut, and is board certified in both neurologic and pediatric therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties which is unique in the field. Her passion is working with those with undiagnosed and rare disorders, and she serves this community through her role as the Medical Liaison for U.R. Our Hope.

Schedule
CAD quarterly meeting: 5:30-6:00 networking; 6:00- 6: 30 business meeting; 6:30-7:30 presentation.
