This course will review upper and lower quadrant screening for the physical therapist and physical therapist assistant. It will review the screening techniques in lecture format; including general inspection, abdominal screen, vascular screening for lower quarter, sensory and musculoskeletal integrity screening. Normal and abnormal findings will be discussed along with referral procedures. The course will also contain a lab portion to allow participants to review and perform the screening techniques.

At the conclusion of this program, the learner will be able to:

1. Identify the physical therapist's role in Primary Care per the American Physical Therapy Association's Guide to Physical Therapist Practice
2. Apply medical screening techniques to traditional examination procedures that result in a comprehensive examination scheme for all patients/clients across the lifespan.
3. Perform physical examination techniques and medical screening procedures for the abdomen, lumbar and lower quarter.
4. Perform physical examination techniques and medical screening procedures for the head, neck, chest, upper quarter and thorax.
5. Differentiate normal from abnormal findings in the screening physical examination procedures.
6. Recognize signs and symptoms from health history and screening that necessitate immediate medical referral when analyzing a case scenario.
