Speaker Bio(s)

Mark Turek has been the Chief Investigator for the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners since 1989. When the PT Board was merged with the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners, with the creation of the Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners in 1993, he became the Chief Investigator for both boards. These two boards regulate the respective practices of the licensees and enforce the statutes against those who practice without the benefit of licensure. Mr. Turek’s roles include oversight of all board investigations, annual school presentations, testifying at federal and state criminal trials, participation in governor’s fraud task force, and numerous presentations at national and state association meetings.
Prior to this position, Mr. Turek worked for the US Treasury Department – Internal Revenue Service – chiefly as a Tax Examiner and Revenue Officer in the South Texas district.

Karen Gordon, PT is currently the PT Coordinator at the Executive Council of Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy Examiners (ECPTOTE). Her responsibilities include coordinating the activities of the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners (PT Board) and the physical therapy related activities within the agency. Prior to accepting the position, Ms. Gordon was appointed to and served on the PT Board for 12 years. Clinically, she has practiced in a variety of settings including private practice, hospital, home health, and compliance auditing/peer reviewing.
