Autoimmune disorders affect over 50 million people in the United States alone and are the 3rd leading chronic illness after cancer and heart disease. Detection of these disorders is difficult so receiving a correct diagnosis can take years. PTs can play a role in helping in detection of these disorders and must take them into account when designing a treatment plan for a patient.

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this program, the learner will be able to:

1. Discuss hypotheses on the increasing prevalence of autoimmune disorders
2. Identify signs and symptoms of autoimmune disease in your patients
3. Discuss the pathology and medical management of autoimmune disorders
4. Analyze the role of PT and exercise in management of autoimmune disorders
