At the end of the presentation, attendees will be able to:
(1) Reason through and discuss the common issues with the terminology of running
(2) Address the pros and cons of different landing patterns and how they lead to performance and/or injury (3) Analyze the movement patterns of a runner within the standardized framework of the Pose Method
(4) Perform drills that enhance the runner's perception of the movement and improve his/her motor pattern
(5) Demonstrate understanding of video analysis of running gait, explain the importance of the dominant running position and design plan of care to correct errors
(6) Work directly with patients and athletes to rehabilitate their injury, decrease their injuries and improve their performance

Course Description:

In this intermediate level course, participants will review how the Pose Method® of Running can be applied to injury prevention and performance improvement. Instructional methods will include lecture, multi-media presentation, video analysis, and a practical portion that will include active participation for developing running skill and demonstrated competence of course material. Information will be provided at the course pertaining to options for obtaining related DVDs, books, and instructional booklets. Continuing training and Certification will also be discussed. This course will meet the didactic and practical requirements necessary to take the Pose Method® certification examination for Running Technique Specialist title. This exam is offered separately online at for an additional fee. Following successful completion of the course work and the online examination, individuals may distinguish themselves as a Certified Running Technique Specialist.

Speaker Bios:

Charles Blake, PT, DPT

Dr. Blake is a Physical Therapist in the US Army, stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. His most notable duty stations were serving as the first PT in a Brigade Surgeon position and working in a multidisciplinary team of strength and conditioning coaches, a nutritionist, and a sports psychologist with Third Special Forces Group (Airborne). As a PT, he has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Dr. Blake has been published in the Physical Therapy Journal and the Journal of Sports Physical Therapy. He has presented as a Keynote speaker on Injury Prevention in running for the University of Texas at El Paso, 2009 Force Health Protection Conference, 2011 Multinational Deployed Physical Therapist Conference, and the 2011 Special Operations Medical Association. Dr. Blake is a Pose Running Master Coach and is currently co-writing Army Doctrine on running for physical training and injury prevention and participates with a Military Times in an expert panel of fitness and medical providers to answer fitness and performance related issues.

Dr. Bruce Tan

Dr. Tan is a Physical Therapist in the US Army, stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. He completed his Physical Therapy education at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky in 2011. Dr. Tan has completed certification in Intramuscular Dry Needling. He is also a Certified Sports Performance Coach and a Pose Method Running Instructor (Level 1). Dr. Tan is involved in conducting clinical research and is currently participating in the Army’s Musculoskeletal Mentorship Program. Among his professional interests are Manual Therapy, Sports Physical Therapy, Functional Exercise Testing and Training, and Sport Specific Exercise Training.
