The aim of this course is to introduce return to sport criteria, tests and measures for youth and adolescent athletes (ages 13-18) for upper extremity sports utilizing the most current evidence and practice trends. Differences between youth and adolescent and the 18+ age groups will be discussed where appropriate.

By the end of the course students will be able to:

1. understand the need and relevance for return to sport testing and criteria for youth and adolescent upper extremity athletes
2. identify various factors involved in safe return to sport participation for the injured upper extremity athlete
3. identify objective tests and measures that can be used to help determine readiness for return to sport in the injured youth and adolescent upper extremity athlete
4. identify differences between sports and competition age-level as it relates to the return to sport testing and criteria

Okon Antia received a master's of phyical therapy from UTMB. Antia is an APTA board certified orthopedic and sports clinical specialist; certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association; certified emergency medical responder by the American Red Cross. Antia has 7 years of clinical experience in orthopedics and sports medicine, and is currently serving as rehabilitation consultant for Prairie View A & M University Athletics and Sports Physical Therapy adjunct faculty for Houston methodist Willowbrook Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship and Family Practice Sports Medicine Residency Rotation.
