Course Objectives:

  • The audience will be able to define chronic pain as it applies to physical therapy
  • The audience will understand pain based on the evolution of past and current theoretical paradigms
  • The audience will be introduced to the most current pain science
  • To understand the role of the nervous system in the processing of pain
  • To define central sensitization and its effects on the nervous system
  • The audience will feel confident with the examination of the patient with persistent pain
  • The audience will have a better understanding of the management and treatment of the patient with persistent pain

Speaker Bio:

John, originally from Katy, Texas, graduated from Texas State University in 2013 with his doctorate in physical therapy. As a student physical therapist, he spent 7 months at a county hospital within the Harris Health System where he was immersed in the treatment of patients in chronic pain. Dr. Fite is currently practicing in Houston, Texas, in an outpatient orthopedic clinic where he treats varying patients with chronic pain, vestibular disorders, and musculoskeletal injuries. He is currently a fellow in training to receive his orthopedic manual therapy fellowship through OPTIM Physical Therapy.
