New Professionals Resources

A New Professional is a PT or PTA who has graduated from an accredited program is the last five years.  The following resources are intended to assist new professionals in starting their career and transitioning from school into their chosen profession.

Once a graduate passes the exam and is issued a permanent license from the PT Board of Examiners, the license is good for a 2 year period.  In order to renew your license at the end of the 2 year period, you must have completed 30 hours (for PTs) or 20 hours (for PTAs) of approved continued competency education (CCUs).  2 of these hours must be designated as an approved Ethics course.

Important Points

  • Courses must be approved by Texas.  Other entities are not authorized to approve Texas physical therapy courses for the purposes of licensure renewal.
  • Ethics requirement is specific in Texas.  Course may have "ethics" in the title, but that doesn't mean it meetings the requirement.  The search engine on the TPTA website will designate if a course is approved for the Ethics requirement.
  • Courses must be taken within your licensure period.  If you took a course 1 day before your license became active, it can't be used to fulfill your CCU requirement.
