Up to 50% of individuals suffer from urinary incontinence. This greatly affects quality of life. We, as musculoskeletal experts, must have a basic understanding of how the pelvic floor can be implicated in incontinence and be able to discuss treatment options for our patients. 4CCUs

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the physiology of micturition
2. Differentiate between stress, urge, and mixed incontinence
3. Identify red flags that warrant referral back to the referring medical provider
4. Understand the basic diagnostic tests done prior to PT intervention
5. Understand the anatomy of the pelvic floor
6. Perform basic behavioral training for appropriate patients

Speaker(s)
Adrienne Gobe, PT, DPT, WCS earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL in 2013. She is passionate about treating patients with pelvic floor muscle disorders in females and males including pelvic pain, continence issues, sexual dysfunction, and constipation issues. She also specializes in orthopedic injuries, complex hip and pelvic pain, spine, and sports injuries. She has taken extensive coursework through the Herman and Wallace Institute of Pelvic Health and Maitland Australian Physiotherapy. She is board certified as a Women's Health Clinical Specialist from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties since 2017. She is passionate about promoting the profession of physical therapy and mentoring other therapists in their journey to treat pelvic floor dysfunction. Her personal interests include running, hiking, camping, water sports, and spending time with friends and family.

Susan “Michele” Green, PT, DPT earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX in 2017. She began working in orthopedics and pelvic health upon graduation, as she has developed an appreciation of how these two fields influence one another. She treats men and women with orthopedic injury, however has focus in the area of women’s health, where she treats various conditions involving obstetrical and pelvic health. Prior to entering the world of physical therapy, Michele spent her career in academics, where she taught undergraduate coursework in cellular and molecular biology, human anatomy and physiology, comparative vertebrate anatomy and physiology, and enjoyed participating in research activities and support. Michele is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association’s Section on Women’s Health and the Orthopaedic Section, in addition to the Texas Physical Therapy Association. Michele is currently completing requirements for the Women’s Health Certified Specialist.
