PTAs and the Dizzy Patient (CAD)

PTs and PTAs commonly treat patients with vestibular dysfunction in clinical practice. Vestibular impairments can affect people of all ages and can lead to balance and safety deficits, and a decreased ability to perform ADLs secondary to dizziness and vertigo. 1 CCU 

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Understand basic knowledge of Vestibular anatomy;
2. Understand BPPV as well as how to properly perform the positional tolerance test, a Dix-Hallpike, and the Epley Maneuver;
3. Distinguish between BPPV and other types of dizziness and have a basic knowledge of dizziness symptoms and prognosis in patients with concussion/TBI.

Speaker(s)
Lisa Becker, PTA is a graduate of Texas A&M University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She earned her PTA degree from Austin Community College in 2014.Lisa is fortunate enough to have been at 360 Balance & Dizziness for her entire PTA career. She has served as a guest lecturer for the Austin Community College Physical Therapist Assistant program, the 360 NeuroHealth Vestibular Summit, and the 360 NeuroHealth CCVR course.Prior to becoming a therapist, Lisa was a technical writer and editor, administrative assistant, and a stay-at-home mom to her three children. She was born in Venezuela and grew up throughout the southern U.S. but considers herself a Texan. Lisa enjoys hiking, gardening, bouldering, reading, movies, cooking, travel, and spending time with her family and friends.
