Manual Therapy For The Hip & Knee - Manual Therapy Course Series (GEPD)

This predominantly lab-based course will cover key topics essential to evidence-informed and safe treatment of the lumbar spine. Topics include a review of the anatomy, biomechanics, and common disorders of the lumbar spine. Additionally, basic joint assessment, and select manual therapy techniques such mobilization/manipulation procedures, soft tissue mobilization, and neural as will be discussed and practiced 4CCUs 

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Accurately palpate key anatomic structures;
2. Briefly discuss functional biomechanics;
3. Examine patients to identify those who may benefit from hip and knee manual therapy interventions;
4. Select and apply appropriate manual therapy interventions safely to improve mobility;
5. Understand the need for stability and how to generate it in the hip and knee;
6. Discuss practical applications of joint treatments for common hip and knee diagnoses such as osteoarthritis, sciatica, tendonitis, bursitis, ligament injuries, meniscus injuries and more.


Speaker(s)
David Midaugh, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT  received his DPT in 2011 from Texas State University - San Marcos. He completed his orthopedic residency and fellowship in manual therapy in 2015. He founded El Paso Manual Physical Therapy in 2014, a private-pay outpatient manual therapy clinic focused on helping El Pasoans avoid unnecessary surgery, injections and pain medications. He taught orthopedics at the University of Texas at El Paso in 2016-2017. He has trained numerous physical therapy students and fellows in the manual therapy specialty.

9:20 am Lab: Palpation of important landmarks, joints & soft tissue (40 min)
10:00 am Lecture: Overview of common diagnoses, indications/contraindications for manual therapy treatment (60 min)
11:00 am Break (10 min)
11:10 am Lab: Joint examination & mobilization/manipulation lab (50 min)
12:00 pm Discuss diagnoses, clinical reasoning; questions (30 min)
12:30 pm End

Additional Information and Registration
CCUs are only issued to PTs and PTAs. In order to receive credit, you must be present for the full course and sign in and out at the time of the meeting. After the course complete the course evaluation. Link to the evaluation in is your confirmation email. Credits will be issued after verifying attendance and completion of evaluation no later than June 30, 2022. Please allow until then for processing. You will log in to your TPTA member account or the account used when completing the evaluation. Please wait until after that date to contact TPTA if your CCUs have not posted on your transcript.
