PTA Practice Rules in Texas: What do we really know? (CAD)

To bring awareness to clinicians of a knowledge deficit regarding Texas PTA practice rules, while simultaneously reducing the discrepancy. 1 CCU 

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Identify common misinterpretations of PTA abilities;
2. Compare supervising clinician understanding of practice rules to PTA knowledge;
3. Evaluate personal knowledge-deficit and be inspired to remedy any detected discrepancy.

Speaker(s)
Shaunda Kwiatek, PT, DPT is Director of Clinical Education at Kilgore College, Tom Waugh Leadership Fellow, and current Chair for East Texas District of TPTA.  Shaunda received her undergraduate education at Texas A&M University, College Station, and Doctorate of Physical Therapy with the inaugural class of 2010 at Texas Woman’s University, Dallas.  She started as a Physical Therapist in Longview at CORE, then transitioned to Tyler with New Dimensions Rehabilitation where she concluded her tenure as Clinic Manager.  Shaunda also spent some time working prn for local clinics in settings including outpatient, home health, long term acute care, skilled nursing, and pediatrics.  Throughout her eight-year clinical career, Shaunda mentored or was a CI for nearly 20 PT/PTA students prior to accepting the DCE position at Kilgore College, and has worked closely with PTAs at nearly all facilities.  Shaunda was inducted as a Tom Waugh Leadership Fellow in October 2021.  Her Tom Waugh project focused on improving awareness of the PTA role in Texas in order to increase utilization of PTAs and enhance PT/PTA teams across the state.

CCUs are only issued to PTs and PTAs. In order to receive credit, you must be present for the full course. After the course complete the course evaluation by 9/30/2022. Link to the evaluation in is your confirmation email. You must follow all instructions, including completing registration. Credits will be issued after verifying attendance and completion of evaluation no later than October 1, 2022. Please allow until then for processing. You will log in to your TPTA member account or the account used when completing the evaluation. Please wait until after that date to contact TPTA if your CCUs have not posted on your transcript. Instructions for retrieving will be emailed to you.
