Clinical Determinants -Variances and Similarities in Amputee Vs Hemiplegic Gait (CBD)

This course is designed for physical therapists, therapist assistants as well as PT and PTA students to provide information on key clinical determinants applicable to gait rehabilitation and training for LE amputees and Hemiplegic gait. This course will break down gait variances and commonalities affecting gait outcomes in the specified categories and discuss interventional techniques for the same. 1CCU 

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Understand abnormal trunk movement during gait in hemiplegics and amputees;
2. Identify similarities and differences Determinants of gait affecting amputees and hemiplegics;
3. List the gait deviations that are most common in people who wear prostheses and explain their most frequent causes;
4. Explain how changes in prosthetic alignment, including foot alignment alter the position of the ground reaction force and affect prosthetic joint movement during gait;
5. Explain how prosthetic foot alignment affects the alignment of a person's residual limb inside a prosthetic socket;
6. Determine when is someone ready for a prosthesis.

Speaker(s)
Preeth Cherian graduated in the year 1996 and completed his Masters in Ortho and Sports rehabilitation in 1999 from Manipal University India. He completed his DPT from UTICA College NY in 2011. He worked as faculty in the dept of physical therapy at the Manipal University Allied health sciences college India and was an Associate Professor until 2007. He was primarily involved with the Post graduate orthopedic physical therapy program at Manipal University. He has worked in multiple clinical settings ranging from Inpatient Rehabilitation across various medical diagnostic conditions in Varied ICU based settings to LTAC based settings. He has also worked exclusively amongst geriatric patients for about 12 yrs. He has experience working with post OP CP and other chronic related conditions as part of the orthopedic dept gait team while he was at Manipal University which hosted a dedicated gait lab. He has experience working with post op tendon transfer rehabilitations for CP and leprosy patients with focus on functional compensatory gait training He has a few publications in the areas of cervicogenic headaches, TMJ disorders with focus on bruxism, manual therapy techniques for LBP including nerve mobilization techniques. He has done clinical research while working on his PHD in the area of plantar fasciitis with taping and iontophoresis drug delivery using ketorolac, Diclofenac sodium, and lidocaine and their effects on and gait determinants predisposing to the condition. He was the Master trainer for Genesis Rehab services in fall prevention, identification, and risk stratification and reduction strategies amongst LTC residents for the state of Texas between 2014-2018.He is currently working at DHR orthopedics and sports Institute Edinburg as Associate Director.

8.20-8.40pm: Abnormal trunk movt with hemiplegic and amputee gait –similarities and differences
8.40-8.55pm: Evaluation specifics for Amputee VS CVA gait, Interventional exs and strategies.
8.55-9.00 pm: Q & A

After the course complete the course evaluation by 10/30/2022. Link to the evaluation in is your confirmation email. You must follow all instructions, including completing registration. Credits will be issued after verifying attendance and completion of evaluation no later than November 1, 2022. Please allow until then for processing.
