Understanding how the anatomy and mechanics are interconnected with the loading principles of therapeutic exercise is important for common conditions treated by physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists, occupational therapist assistants, and athletic trainers. This course will provide participants with a review of common disorders, theory and technique for basic joint assessment, joint mobilization/manipulation procedures, soft tissue mobilization, and how to choose optimal exercises to maintain long-term joint and soft tissue health4CCUs 

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Review tissue mechanics and loading principles for disc, muscle, tendon, and cartilage tissue;
2. Discuss muscle imbalances and how they affect arthrokinematics of joints in the spine, upper extremity, and lower extremity;
3. Perform examination, including special tests and modified muscle tests, to accurately identify muscle imbalances in the spine, upper extremity, and lower extremity;
4. Perform novel exercises focused on correcting muscle imbalances in the spine, upper extremity, and lower extremity:
5.Discuss practical combinations and applications of manual therapy and therapeutic exercise to treat muscle imbalances in the spine, upper extremity, and lower extremity.

Speaker(s)
David Midaugh, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT  received his DPT in 2011 from Texas State University - San Marcos. He completed his orthopedic residency and fellowship in manual therapy in 2015. He founded El Paso Manual Physical Therapy in 2014, a private-pay outpatient manual therapy clinic focused on helping El Pasoans avoid unnecessary surgery, injections and pain medications. He taught orthopedics at the University of Texas at El Paso in 2016-2017. He has trained numerous physical therapy students and fellows in the manual therapy specialty.

11:30am Lab: Evaluation & exercise prescription for muscle imbalances in the lumbar spine & lower extremity.

Additional Information and Registration
CCUs are only issued to PTs and PTAs. In order to receive credit, you must be present for the full course and sign in and out at the time of the meeting. After the course complete the course evaluation. Link to the evaluation in is your confirmation email. You must follow all instructions, including completing registration. Credits will be issued after verifying attendance and completion of evaluation no later than December 1, 2022. Please allow until then for processing. You will log in to your TPTA member account or the account used when completing the evaluation. Please wait until after that date to contact TPTA if your CCUs have not posted on your transcript. Instructions for retrieving will be emailed to you.
