If You're Not At The Table, You're On The Menu! Legislative Issues in PT (SED)

This course will give a brief overview about what advocacy is and how the legislative process works. This course will also provide information about current legislative issues affecting the PT profession in Texas and the national level. Finally, this course will help prepare PTs, PTAs, and students for the upcoming Texas Legislative Day 20231CCU 

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Define advocacy;
2. Understand current legislative issues in Texas and at the national level;
3. Consider which advocacy participation methods would work best for them

Speaker(s)
Allison Smith PT, DPT, PhD is a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. She recently completed her PhD in Physical Therapy from Texas Woman's University in December 2021. She previously graduated with a bachelor’s degree in health sciences and minor in psychology in 2011 from Purdue University, where she was also a NCAA Division I swimmer. She attended Washington University in St. Louis and graduated with her doctor of physical therapy degree in 2014. Following PT school she was accepted into the Harris Health System orthopedic physical therapy residency program, which she completed in 2015. Allie became board certified as an orthopedic clinical specialist in 2016. In 2017 she completed the OPTIM manual therapy fellowship and became a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. She was awarded with Outstanding Clinical Instructor Award in 2017. Allie has previously served locally for the Southeastern District of the Texas Physical Therapy Association as the Governmental Affairs Chair and nationally representing Texas as a delegate in the House of Delegates. She continues to be a clinical instructor and mentor at Harris Health System and is involved in the orthopedic residency program. She also assists with the orthopedics module for the neurologic residency. She previously was adjunct faculty with Texas Woman's University from 2018-2020.

You must register for the meeting. Registration is used in the attendance verification process. Registration closes on 2/20/2023.

This course has been approved by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners as meeting continuing competence requirements for PTs and PTAs. In order to receive credit, you must be present for the full course and complete the course evaluation by 3/7. Credits will be issued no later than March 10, 2023. Please allow until then for processing.
