This course will review the clinical gross anatomy of the back, thorax, neck and superficial shoulder regions. Emphasis will be placed upon muscles, blood and nerve supply to the regions. The course will begin with a lecture review of the clinical anatomy followed by a gross anatomy lab review of the regions (approximately 2 hours lecture/2 hours lab). Participants must have a long sleeved shirt, long pants, and closed toed shoes to enter the lab. Lab coats, safety goggles, and gloves will be provided. Participants who are pregnant must contact Suzy Okere ([email protected]) by October 1st to discuss participation in the course. 4CCUs

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Identify the muscles of the back/neck, thorax, pelvis, abdomen, and superficial shoulder.
2. Identify the vascular supply from the heart to the thorax, abdomen, pelvis, and upper extremity.
3. Identify the nerve supply to the back/neck, thorax, pelvis, and superficial shoulder regions.
4. Relate the anatomical course followed by the major nerves, blood vessels, and muscles to adjacent structures in the identified regions.

Speaker(s)
Suzy Okere, PT, PhD has been teaching gross anatomy at Texas State University since 2000. She completed a Sports Physical Therapy residency program and is a licensed athletic trainer. Therefore, her teaching style has a strong emphasis on clinical applications.
