High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) can be used to increase the value of Physical Therapist services through improved efficiency, compliance, and effectiveness. HIIT can be utilized in all patient populations and settings to achieve higher patient and therapist satisfaction. When implemented properly, HIIT demonstrates the highest level of skill and safety Physical Therapists can provide for aerobic interventions. 2CCUs

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Explain the contributions of vital sign and exertion monitoring to High Intensity Interval training program design.
2. Properly assess and interpret patient vital signs in response to activity, distinguishing signs of activity intolerance when present, and modify program appropriately.
3. Justify use of chosen exertion rating scale and aerobic capacity test based on patient needs and presentation.
4. Demonstrate patient-directed language for explaining different aspects of High Intensity Interval Training that value patient response and input.
5. Design a High Intensity Interval Training program for specific patient case that addresses functional needs and patient-driven outcomes

Speaker(s)
Dr. Kaelee Brockway is a core faculty member at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences Dallas campus and currently practices in skilled nursing, but she spent the last six years practicing in home health care. She is a Board Certified Geriatric Specialist and an Advanced Credentialed Exercise Expert for Aging Adults. Dr. Brockway was a Heart and Lung Transplant Educator for a large health system and served on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Physical Therapy Association prior to moving to Texas in 2018. Her focus is providing patients with the highest value therapy services by implementing patient-specific interventions which she typically achieves through the use of High-Intensity Interval Training. Her passion is educating physical therapists how to provide primary management of advanced chronic diseases through exercise prescription and heath education.
