At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

● Identify mechanisms of pain and nociceptive pathways;
● Identify red flags during patient history and treatment;
● Understand the role of emotions when addressing pain;
● Understand basic concepts of alternative treatment strategies and coping strategies from a Mind-Body Approach.

Speaker(s)
Alicia Poche, PT has been practicing as a Physical Therapist for over 15 years. A Louisiana native, she earned her B.S. in Kinesiology focusing on Human Movement. She then earned her Master's in Physical Therapy from LSU Health Sciences Center, New Orleans in 2005.Over the years Alicia has worked frequently with people experiencing both acute and chronic pain. She found that physical modalities did help to ease the pain, but it wasn’t always a permanent solution. Alicia felt she was missing the mark by not addressing the psychosocial aspects of pain and began exploring other treatment modalities to address the body as a whole and heal not only the physical body but to include the mind and emotions as well. She earned a certificate in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and has been trained in Neuro Emotional Technique (NET). She is a practicing Master Reiki Practitioner and uses various approaches during treatment sessions to achieve lasting results for her patients.
