The course is designed to help physical
therapists develop consistent systematic clinical reasoning processes to di
fferentially diagnose disorders within the scope of practice of a physical
therapist and to recognize disorders requiring medical referral.
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Utilize presented strateg
ies from the course to improve your ability to safely function as a direct
access practitioner;
2. Provide
patient-centered physical therapy care using advanced clinical reasoning st
rategies to facilitate more accurate diagnoses and screening;
<
span style="font-size: 15px;">3. Develop and implement consistent clinical
processes to assist in screening for systemic disease and other non-musculo
skeletal problems through the use of population tailored health screening f
orms, hypothesis tailored systems review and physical therapy examinations,
and evidence-based screening strategies;
4. Identify the physical therapy patient who requires care not wi
thin the scope of physical therapist practice on a timely basis;
5. S
elect appropriate diagnostic tests according to the principles of evidence-
based diagnosis;
6. Recognize th
e signs, symptoms, and rehabilitation implications of a broad spectrum of n
on-musculoskeletal disorders;
7.
Utilize response to physical therapist intervention or changes from the es
tablished baseline as a form of ongoing active screening to help determine
the patient client who is appropriate for continued care and those who requ
ire medical referral;
8. Serve a
s a mentor for physical therapy students and interns on diagnosis and medic
