The focus of this course is identifying the transitions from conservative management to post-operative management and the role of physical therapists and physical therapy assistants. The content relates to the scope of physical therapy and its limitations. 1CCU

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Identify physical therapy role in conservative management for hip and knee arthritis.
2. Identify physical therapy role after surgical management for hip and knee arthritis.
3. Understand the basis for robotic-assisted surgery in hip and knee replacement.
4. Recognize patients that could be candidates for robotic-assisted surgery for hip and knee replacement.

Speaker(s)
Lt. Col. Joseph Conflitti, MD, is a Diplomate in the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and an orthopedic surgeon who practices at the UT Health East Texas Orthopedic Institute. Originally from Texas, Dr. Conflitti served in the USAF as a flight surgeon. In College Station, he earned his bachelor’s degree from the Texas A&M University College of Medicine (Cum Laude) and his doctor of medicine from the Texas A&M University Health Science Center (With Honors). In addition, he completed a fellowship at the Charite Hospital and Clinic in Berlin, Germany, and an orthopedic trauma fellowship at the University of Washington Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.Among his awards and associations are the following: Fellow, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons; Lt. Col., USAF Reserve Member, Orthopedic Trauma Association; Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences; Published 27 peer reviewed articles, referenced in PubMed. Dr. Conflitti believes in the importance of treating his patients like family. “Everybody is an important person, and I’m going to do everything I can to take care of my patients and their family, just as I would my own.”
