This continuing education course is all about gait.  We will review normal gait mechanics, discuss ways to assist with gait evaluation, discuss clinical implications for both orthopedic and neurological gait disorders, and touch on treatment strategies to address the observed deficits.  Combination of lecture, video, and lab will be included.  Wear lab appropriate attire.  Sign in begins at 8am.  Course begins at 830.  Snacks and drinks will be provided, vending machines available on-site.  There will be a one hour break for lunch. 6CCUs

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

• Discuss why physical therapists should evaluate gait
• Identify & understand benefits & barriers to performing clinical gait analyses
• Identify common clinical indications for performing gait analyses
• Identify & describe the divisions of the gait cycle using common gait terminology
• Describe "normal" stride spatiotemporal characteristics
• Understand & describe normal gait kinematics, kinetics, and muscle actions
• Discuss and demonstrate novel technology that can be used to assist in performing clinical gait analyses
• Identify common gait deviations and their most likely causes
• Understand the functional implications of common gait deviations
• Select appropriate outcomes measures for gait outcomes
• Recognize the role of lower extremity orthoses in neurologic rehabilitation and formulate an appropriate orthotic prescription
• Develop evidence- based interventions to target specific gait deviations
