Upcoming Webinar on Writing Functional Therapy Goals, January 23, 2019
Information posted December 10, 2018

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to eligible clients. Administrative procedures such as prior authorization, pre-certification, referrals, and claims/encounter data filing may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Providers should contact the client's specific MCO for details.

On January 23, 2019, TMHP will conduct a live webinar for therapy providers on writing functional goals for physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), and speech therapy (ST).

Texas Medicaid requires functional goals for all PT, OT, and ST plans of care. To help providers integrate this requirement into therapy plans of care, the Writing Functional Therapy Goals webinar will explore the process in depth with explanations and examples from a variety of practice areas. The webinar will be conducted by a TMHP Training Services Representative and will include a question and answer session with Texas Health and Human
Services Medicaid staff.

Topics covered in the webinar include:
 - Writing functional goals for PT, OT, and ST
 - Creating patient-centered and Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART) goals
 - Clinical considerations for writing acute, chronic, and maintenance or preventive goals
 - Reviewing three categories that support medical necessity for therapy services
 - Identifying goals that do not meet policy criteria
 - Including caregiver education in goals and plan of care
