Blood Flow Restriction: It's Not IF! It's WHEN! (NTD)
Tuesday, January 17, 2023, 7:00 PM - 8:45 PM CDT
Category: District Meetings

Impairments in muscle strength and reacquisition of muscle mass following an injury or surgery impacts short- and long-term quality of life and ability to perform in sport. Maintenance of muscle mass during the immediate periods following injury may therefore protect against these losses in quality of life and ability to return to competitive sport. Blood flow restriction training offers a way for load- or pain-compromised patients to get the therapeutic benefits of heavy load strength training without the mechanical load on the joints, offering an evidence-based rehabilitation technique to help patients maximize their recovery. 1CCU

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the rationale for integration of blood flow restriction into a post-injury or post-surgical plan of care;
2. Identify safety concerns that practitioners should consider when implementing this technique;
3. Implement an evidence-based BFR training program through patient case studies.
