Fifteen Physical Therapy Compliance Hacks (SED)

This course will provide answers and guidance to the fifteen most common compliance challenges therapy providers encounter. It will address issues of interest to the physical therapist, physical therapist assistant, and the physical therapy student. 1CCU 

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Utilize the Delayed Plan of Care provision effectively;
2. Explain Plan of Care Technical Denials;
3. Recognize that an Order, Prescription, or Referral ≠ POC;
4. Enumerate Supervision Requirements;
5. Recognize that the Rendering Provider must be Billing Provider;
6. Demonstrate Documentation of Total Visit Time;
7. Utilize CPT Code Definitions-HIPAA;
8. Carry-out Safe Transmission of PHI;
9. Choose Specific Words/wording to Demonstrate Skilled Intervention;
10. Explain Physical Therapy Private Practice Site Visits;
11. Employ Proper Unit Counting Methodology;
12. Articulate How and When to Use Advanced Beneficiary Notice;
13. Comply with Progress & Discharge Report Documentation;
14. Describe What Puts a Provider on the Radar;
15. Carryout Effective Record Submitting Processes

Mary Daulong, PT, CHC, CHP has a very diverse practice background which includes private practice ownership, corporate managed services and hospital-based practice spanning five decades. BCMS, Inc. was established in 1985 and but has been, for the past twenty-two years, 100% dedicated to working with outpatient therapy practices and providers in the areas of federal and state regulatory compliance, payment and coverage policy including billing, coding, and documentation. Additionally, BCMS performs provider enrollment and credentialing and on-site and off-site audit services. BCMS’ Compliance Program is heralded as the most comprehensive and dynamic program for outpatient therapy providers throughout the states.Mary was the first physical therapist certified in Health Care Compliance and has maintained that certification since 2002. She is also certified as a HIPAA Professional by the HIPAA Academy. Mary has been an active member of the APTA and has served in a volunteer capacity for over 45 consecutive years. She has held the position of chair and/or member of the Texas Physical Therapy Association’s Payment Policy Committee for 16 years and the Private Practice Section’s Payment Policy Committee for nearly nine years and is a compliance columnist for PPS’ Impact Magazine. She served for five years on the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners as well as was a member of its Executive Council for PT and OT and Investigations. Mary currently serves on Novitas Solution’s Provider Outreach Education Advisory Group. Mary has presented hundreds of courses and webinars related to compliance both on a federal and state level, often being the featured speaker at National, Chapter and Section Conferences. Mary is the proud wife of Paul, her middle school sweetheart and is blessed with two children and their spouses as well as three incredible grandchildren and three stepdaughters.

You must register for the meeting. Registration is used in the attendance verification process. Registration closes on 3/20/2023.

This course has been approved by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners as meeting continuing competence requirements for PTs and PTAs. In order to receive credit, you must be present for the full course and complete the course evaluation by 3/31. Credits will be issued no later than April 15, 2023. Please allow until then for processing.
