This course is directly related to physical therapy and the governance of the American Physical Therapy Association by the House of Delegates. The House of Delegates is the APTA policymaking body that meets annually, making decisions on issues that may have far-reaching implications for the Association and profession. The House also elects national leaders including the APTA Board of Directors and Nominating Committee. 1CCU 

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

1.Describe the purpose of the House of Delegates (HOD) and its’ role in governance of the Association;
2.Explain the process of elections of a delegate and the role of the delegate;
3.Outline the process of motion development from initial idea to the floor of the House;
4.Review updates from the 2023 House: motions passed and vision for the future. 

Speaker(s)
Lois Stickley, PT, PhD is a tenured associate professor at Texas State University and has taught in physical therapist programs for over 27 years. She taught for 19 years at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in both the professional and post-professional DPT programs and was the program director for the post-professional program. She currently teaches courses in professional issues and in clinical decision making. Her areas of scholarly work include professional development and leadership, self-efficacy, and teaching and learning. Lois has served as a Delegate to the APTA House of Delegates for 10 years and most recently as Chief Delegate from Texas for the past 5 years. She served as the Texas Assembly Speaker (2015-2018) and on the Texas Physical Therapy Associations’ Board of Directors (1995-1997, 2012-2018) and Executive Committee (2015-2018).

Live Online and in-person at 
Northeast Texas Community College. In-person course is in the Community Room located in the Humanities building of NTCC.  The outside doors face the parking lot.

Non-TPTA Members: $25
Registration fee goes toward East Texas District Scholarship fund.

Registration
CCUs are only issued to PTs and PTAs. In order to receive credit, you must be present for the full course. After the course complete the course evaluation by 10/6/2023. Link to the evaluation in is your confirmation email. You must follow all instructions, including completing registration. Credits will be issued after verifying attendance and completion of evaluation no later than October 9, 2023. Please allow until then for processing. Please wait until after that date to contact TPTA. Certificate will be emailed to you.
