This webinar fully supports the TPTA Mission Statement of optimizing movement, health and wellness of people. This webinar will provide current evidence-based medicine information for promoting health and wellness in regards to women's health with information on the following:1. Regulating metabolism in order to positively influence oxidative stress/inflammation to effect weight gain/loss, and also to improve mood, healing and cardiovascular health. 2. The neurophysiology of sleep with insight into behavioral and cognitive interventions for improved sleep3. Women's pelvic health with differential diagnosis of different types of pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction; pregnancy and post-partum complications; insight into various forms of chronic pelvic pain; differentiation of various organ prolapse; differentiation of different types of incontinence4. Screening, identifying and managing constipation.All of these issues are can be relevant in the physical therapy evaluation and treatment and this webinar will provide evidence-based information of assessing, treating and referring out when appropriate. 7CCUs,  3CCUs Differential Diagnosis

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

Speaker(s)

Valerie A. Phelps, PT, ScD, OCS, FAAOMPT graduated with a degree in physical therapy from the University of Minnesota in 1981. She was certified by the International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine, IAOM, in orthopedic manual therapy in 1989, and became an international instructor for the IAOM in 1994. Dr. Phelps became a Board-Certified Orthopedic Specialist, OCS, through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in 2003. She is a Fellow with the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists, FAAOMPT since 2004. She graduated with a terminal professional degree, a Doctorate of Science, ScD, in Physical Therapy from Texas Tech University, Lubbock TX, in December 2011. Along with being the founder and current senior faculty of the IAOM-US, (www.iaom-us.com) she has lectured throughout the United States and Europe. Dr. Phelps has co-authored several books, book chapters, and numerous peer review journal articles. She is the founder of, and currently practices at, Advanced Physical Therapy (www.aptak.com) in Anchorage, with clinics in Fairbanks, the Mat-Su Valley, and the Kenai Peninsula, in Alaska.

Rudie Spigarelli, PT, PhD (c), DPT, CMT is a physical therapist and core faculty at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in Austin, Texas. She earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Texas Woman’s University in 2013. She is additionally pursuing her PhD in Physical Therapy at Texas Woman’s University, with sleep in physical therapy students as the subject of her research. Her clinical and research interests include sleep, vestibular disorders, and optimizing psychosocial approaches to physical therapy care. Dr. Spigarelli has practiced in several outpatient clinical settings, including multi-disciplinary, mobile, orthopedic, and vestibular clinics. She has experience and certification in concussion management, manual therapy, visual-vestibular functional integration training, clinical instruction, and practice management, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia through PESI. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Texas Physical Therapy Association (TPTA), Vestibular SIG and Education sections, as well as the Vestibular Disorders Association (VeDA). In addition to teaching and serving full-time as Associate Director of Clinical Education at the University of St. Augustine for Health Science in Austin, Dr. Spigarelli enjoys live music, learning tai chi and American Sign Language, biking, and spending time with her husband, dog, cat, and turtle.

Ciera Ward, PT, DPT, PRPC is a Board Certified Women's Health Clinical Specialist serving a Clinic Director for Advent Physical Therapy in Grand Rapids, MI. After graduating from University of Indianapolis with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2018 she began her career in pelvic health physical therapy and has been actively involved in mentoring, onboarding and training, committees for clinical expertise and compliance, and leadership. In 2021 she earned her Pelvic Rehabilitation Practioner Certification (PRPC) through Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute where she has been a senior teaching assistant since 2020. In 2022 she earned her board certification through the ABPTS in Women's Health . Outside of work she enjoys cooking , reading, spending time with family and friends , and most importantly snuggling her two goldendoodles Mozie and Belle.

Hazel Anderson, PT, DPT, cert. MDT, Assistant Professor, earned a BS in Physiotherapy from Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland (2007) & then her DPT in Physical Therapy from Texas Tech (2015) and is pursuing a Doctor of Science (ScD) in Rehabilitation Sciences from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock, Texas. She has experience as a physical therapist, clinical instructor, providing adult and pediatric orthopedic, neurologic, sports, and rehabilitation services. Academic teaching experience includes Patient Care Management, Applied Anatomy I and II, Physical therapy Practice I, Biomechanics, and Wellness and Health Promotion. Her research focused on wellness and health promotion as it pertains to both students and physical therapists, and in women’s health. She has presented nationally and internationally.

In order to receive credit you must have registered for the course and per PTOT Board rules must remain logged in for the entire course  and complete the Course Evaluation by the deadline. Credit will not be issued if all steps are not completed.

Credits will be issued by February 2, 2024. Complete your evaluation by January 30th to ensure you receive credit. Credits are only issued to PTs/PTAs. Please allow until then for processing. Please wait until after that date to contact TPTA if you haven't received your certificate.
