This is Part 2 of the course offered in February.
Cardiac pharmacology is an incredibly important consideration when it comes to exercise and treatment from a rehab standpoint. Many patients in today's world are on medications that are controlling some aspect of cardiovascular health. This includes everything from blood pressure medications, blood thinners, and other major cardiovascular medications. It is important to understand these medications, the side effects they have, and how that potentially effects management of patients in physical therapy. 1 CCU
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to: 1. To discuss common medications used to manage heart failure, coronary artery disease, myocardial infarctions, arrhythmias and postoperative cardiac procedures; 2. Enhance the PT clinicians awareness of cardiac medications side effects, signs and symptoms of adverse reactions, and implications for physical performance.
Speaker(s) Wayne Brewer Ph.D is a professor for the physical therapy program at Texas Women's University. He has extensive research experience, experience as a treating clinician and he has obtained his Ph.D from Texas Women's University. He continues to help with research projects for local physical therapy residency programs as well. Wayne continues to be active in the physical therapy community and help grow the progression through teaching and research.
