This course is designed for physical therapists, therapist assistants as well as PT and PTA students to learn about our ever-evolving profession in the state of Texas. This course will allow attendees to gain a personal perspective of physical therapy in the state of Texas through the presenter’s personal knowledge in the areas of PT practice in Texas in 1959, PT Education in 1959 Era, Historical Viewpoint on initial PT Licensure in Texas, TPTA’s Membership and Organization Activities in the 1960-70, Personal Observation of PT Practice Then (1959) and Now (2024). 1 CCU

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the entry-level education for Physical Therapists in 1959;
2. Describe the practice emphasis of PTs in 1959;
3. Discuss the early Texas Physical Therapy Association organization as existed in the1950s-60s-70s;
4. Discuss the salient aspects of the initial licensure of PTS in Texas in 1972;
5. Discuss the presenter’s viewpoint on PT Practice then (1959) and now (2024).

Speaker(s)
J.D. Wendeborn holds an Associate in Science Degree from John Tarleton Jr. College (1956), a Bachelor of Sciencein Physical Therapy from the University of Texas (1959), and Masters Degree in Science fromCorpus Christi State University (1988). Has a career in physical therapy beginning in 1960 andcontinuing currently in 2022. He has served as President of the TPTA, served on the APTA’sJudicial Committee, and has held the Chairmanship of the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners—being appointed to that Board by Governors Preston Smith and Dolph Briscoe.Additionally he directed the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Laredo College from 1985through 2003, retiring in January, 2004; during his tenure at the Laredo College his programawarded Associate of Science Degrees to over 180 Physical Therapist Assistants.

Additional Information and Registration
CCUs are only issued to PTs and PTAs. In order to receive credit, you must be present for the full course. After the course complete the course evaluation by 6/28/2024. Link to the evaluation in is your confirmation email. You must follow all instructions, including completing registration. Credits will be issued after verifying attendance and completion of evaluation no later than July 1, 2024. Please allow until then for processing.
