Quarterly Meeting and CCU Presentation - Pelvic Floor Therapy (CAD)
Monday, June 17, 2024, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM CDT
Category: District Meetings

Pelvic floor therapy has historically been misrepresented in general due to lack of understanding of the multiple components involved. This course aims to clarify some of these misunderstandings and provide a basic knowledge of what the pelvic floor is and how this speciality has advanced in more recent years. 1 CCU

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Define pelvic floor therapy, populations served, misunderstandings, basic anatomy;
2. Discuss how breath and posture play a role in treatment;
3. Understand the importance of an internal evaluation for best practice;
4. Discuss the role of PT/PTA, and continued education considerations.

Speaker(s)
Sara Short, PTA is originally from Michigan but has lived in Texas for the past 18 years. She graduated from ACC PTA program in 2012 and has been working in Outpatient PT since with an emphasis on spine and the aging population. Her interest expanded to the pelvic floor (PF) speciality over the past few years. She assisted a therapist in starting a PF program for Ascension then later worked alongside a PF therapist in a private cash based office where she expanded her education and experience. Currently she works in geriatrics and integrates her training within her sessions to educate on incontinence issues. Personally she loves to be outdoors and you can often find her hiking or kayaking. She uses her love for hiking to help her husband raise funds for a non-profit that serves orphaned children and elderly. She has learned that in order to stay active, taking care of the body is essential. That includes physical, mental, and spiritual balance.

Jordyn Maxwell PT, DPT received her Bachelors of Science in Human Physiology from the University of Oregon in 2018 before continuing on to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Northern Arizona University in 2022.She fell in love with the profession of physical therapy and the unique opportunity to enrich people’s lives through movement and education. From there, she discovered the specialty of pelvic health and knew she had found her passion. She has been working as a pelvic floor physical therapist at Origin Physical Therapy since she started her career.Jordyn is originally from Bend, Oregon and now lives in the Austin area with her partner and their dog. In her free time, she enjoys being outside, staying active with numerous hobbies (running, climbing, yoga, skiing, etc.), cooking delicious food, and spending quality time with those she loves.
